Interview with Mr. Victor Swengbe, founder of DYS Foundation
Interviewer: Mr. Swengbe, it’s wonderful to hear about the initiatives of the David Y. Swengbe Foundation. Could you share a bit more about the inspiration behind starting this foundation?
Victor Swengbe: Thank you for having me. The inspiration behind starting the David Y. Swengbe Foundation stems from a deep desire to make a meaningful impact in the lives of the less fortunate in Liberia. Seeing the struggles of children who lack access to basic education and essential resources compelled me to take action and establish this foundation in 2010.
Interviewer: Bringing in books, computers, and other supplies sounds like a significant endeavor. What challenges have you faced in carrying out these initiatives, particularly in a country like Liberia?
Victor Swengbe: Indeed, there have been challenges along the way. One major hurdle has been securing the necessary resources to fund these initiatives. Additionally, logistical challenges such as transportation and distribution in remote areas have also posed difficulties. However, through determination and the support of dedicated volunteers and donors, we’ve been able to overcome many of these obstacles.
Interviewer: It’s commendable that the foundation is targeting both orphanages and schools. Can you elaborate on how you select the beneficiaries and ensure that the resources reach those who need them most?
Victor Swengbe: Our selection process prioritizes the most vulnerable members of society, particularly orphanages and underserved schools. We work closely with local communities and authorities to identify those in need and ensure that our resources are distributed equitably. Transparency and accountability are paramount, and we regularly monitor the distribution process to ensure that the supplies reach their intended recipients.
Interviewer: You mentioned plans to extend your efforts to other counties, such as River Gee County. How do you envision scaling up your initiatives while maintaining their effectiveness and impact?
Victor Swengbe: Scaling up our initiatives requires careful planning and collaboration with local stakeholders. We aim to replicate the successful models established in Montserrado County while adapting to the unique needs and circumstances of each new location. This may involve establishing partnerships with local organizations, training community members, and leveraging technology to streamline our operations. By staying flexible and responsive, we can ensure that our efforts have a meaningful and sustainable impact across Liberia.
Interviewer: Finally, how can the general public support the David Y. Swengbe Foundation in its mission?
Victor Swengbe: There are several ways the public can support our work. Financial donations are always appreciated and help us cover the costs of purchasing and transporting essential supplies. In-kind donations of books, computers, and other educational materials are also valuable contributions. Additionally, volunteering your time and skills or spreading awareness about our initiatives can make a significant difference. Together, we can empower the children of Liberia and build a brighter future for generations to come.
